Introduction

In this section, I will discuss the games and characters I've played using West End Games' d6 system. First off, I'd like to say that I don't actually follow all their rules, for one simple reason; I don't own the books. There, I said it. I learned most of the rules from friends who DID own the books, but they never really distinguished between the official rules and the home-brewed ones.

Which, I think, isn't all that bad. Just keep in mind that some things that are written here aren't official. Heck, even I don't know what's home-brewed and what's not.

The game

The setting of the game itself hardly needs any explanation. Unless you've been living under a rock these past 25 years, you should have heard about the six star wars movies. If you haven't, you're probably not on the right website.

The Star Wars roleplaying game takes place during a certain time period from the movies. The players can be anything they want, and their characters will have to find a way to get by during all those wars and rebellions. Some players want an active role in either faction you see in the movie. Others take a more detached role and become smugglers, mercenaries, civilians or anything else they can come up with.

The biggest problem I have with games in the star wars universe is this; it's the star wars universe, and some people think that what happens in the movies cannot be affected by what the players do. Doesn't seem like a real problem at first, until you find some minor character like Bossk bugging you just before the battle of Hoth, and you just can't kill him because he makes an appearance in the second movie. No matter how many thermal detonators you throw at him, no matter how often you nuke the planet he's on from orbit, he'll survive. He'll find a way. Which, in my opinion, is just lame. Of course, crossing blades with Vader is suicidal, but you SHOULD have a chance of winning (small as it might be).

Once you get past that little problem, Star Wars is actually a very nice game to play. It doesn't appeal to me as much as Dungeons and Dragons, but hey, to each his own, right? And in Star Wars, there can't be any discussions about the setting. It's there, in the movies. Everybody knows star wars.

Have fun reading through some of my old and newer campaigns, and of course the characters in them.
